Vocal anatomy and function, vocal hygiene, and efficient technique are aspects of singing that get me keyed up. I am fascinated with healthy phonation and cultivating life-long singers.
I have trained primarily in classical voice which has given me the tools to understand efficient, beautiful singing. I have explored and performed many styles of singing. My education in vocal anatomy and vocal health have bolstered my ability to help each student achieve a healthy technique within their desired style of singing.
Want to learn classical voice? I'm there. Want to learn theatrical voice? I'm there too. Are you a professional voice user, like a music therapist or public school music teacher? I can help. Want to learn grunge rock? That's not my thing, but I would be glad to point you in the right direction.
As we enter the post pandemic world and learn to live with this new virus, I do my best to take reasonable precautions against spreading any airborne respiratory virus. I am fully vaccinated and boosted for Covid-19. Currently, masks are not required for in-person lessons. This policy is subject to change based on the latest recommended Covid-19 and respiratory illness related safety measures. I offer voice lessons in-person or online via Google Meet. If you choose the remote format, you will need a smart device with a camera. It is helpful to have headphones and an external microphone, but is not required.
Be well.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Washington University. My BA has given me a foundation in vocal health that allows me to understand the form and function of the vocal structure. My training has also taught me art and joy of interpretation and communication in performing. I regularly attend workshops and conferences to continue my education. I have intentionally heavily emphasized vocal health in my pedagogy training, continuing ed, and personal research.
I have trained with:
I have been teaching private music lessons since 2014. I have operated my private studio since 2016. I have led group vocal warm-ups for Cascadian Chorale and taught group classes on vocal technique. I had the opportunity to lead a group class with Songshine as well. I am open to teaching group lessons, but it's not my main gig. Am also available for contest adjudication.
You can find me performing with Cascadian Chorale, a local choir group I have been singing with since September of 2018. Currently, I serve as the President of the Board of Directors of Cascadian Chorale. I am a member in good standing with the National Association of Teachers of Singing and I have recieved a SongShine teacher certification. I continue to attend professional development workshops and conferences to further my own education and keep my knowledge current. I also have ongoing instruction in vocal pedagogy and singing with Charles Peterson.

Not only does she have the background and professional know-how, but she is committed to her students and teaches in a manner that is both fun and flexible. Between her coaching and the toolkit she's provided, I've not only become a better vocalist, but better at self-educating too—and that kind of skill is indispensable.

My special needs sister has taken music lessons from Tessa for years. After having had lessons from other teachers, we had given up the idea that my sister could learn to play piano and become musically literate. Fortunately, we found Tessa. She is exceedingly patient with my sister, encourages her and coaxes the very best effort from her. The turnaround has been remarkable! I am tremendously grateful to her for everything she has taught my sister and the joy music has brought to my sister and to our family.
